The View from Billings

Here's another story on the Valley Ice Garden sale, this time from the Billings Gazette. As far as Helena goes, I'm not expecting a whole lot from the Independent Record. I think the only time in five years they wrote about the Bighorns they screwed up Mike Butters' resume.

PLEASE get rid of Mike Santos!

He is doing nothing to help the teams outside of the south!
How many times has he visited the franchises in Montana, N. Dakota or Minnesota? less than a handfull!
But yet spends nearly 100,000 a year in travel expenses. What are they paying this guy 135,000 a year to do? The entire West Division has crumbled, did he do anything to help? NO! He helped facilitate their demise.

What do you expect him to do and what difference would more token visits do? The biggest issue with the league is how the teams are spread out all over the country. No one wants to travel to Montana because it's either too long of a bus ride or the airfare is just ridiculous. The Alaska teams provide some financial consideration to go there to play but you're on your own to get to Montana.

Ideally the league should have 3 divisions of 6-7 teams in each where the teams are located in some reasonable proximity which except for the 2 Alaska teams you have to some extent next season with no travel outside the division. And then THREE 4-game showcases (in Blaine, Detroit area, Texas) so that each team plays the 12 or so teams outside of their divisions at least once.
