Chris Barth goes pro

Chris Barth, a defenseman for the Southern Minny Express last season, has signed with the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the CHL.

Former Fargo-Moorhead head coach Shawn Kurulak has been named assistant coach at RPI.

And finally... for those who haven't seen it, here's the new logo out of Wasilla for the Alaska Avalanche. It's some improvement over what they inherited from Springfield, but I have yet to decide by how much.

I think that the new AK Avalanche logo is infinitely better than the Spirit logo, although the AK Avalanche name might leave something to be desired.

Frankly, I wish that groups would stop using entire states or provinces or regions in their naming of their sporting franchises. But that's another gripe for another day.

Any word on what the base jerseys will be?

Makes me want to go out and get a sixer... then feel guilty about it.
