One week 'til vacation freedom

Word is that the NAHL will have their 2006-07 schedule ready tomorrow. This will be an interesting test since with Stu Hackel out of the picture there won't be anyone to do the media write-up for the league. Indeed, his resignation didn't warrant any release, and there's not been any real change (that I can see) to the website since he's left, other than a quiet update to the staff page to remove his name. It's almost tempting to start a clock showing elapsed time since the last real update. Still, I'm sure that interim commish Mark Frankenfeld can find someone with one of the teams capable of slapping a few words together, then get the fellow with Loudshot.com who designed the site to add the content. Otherwise, I suspect the position will remain open at least until a new commish is named and somewhat in place.

Speaking of which, I've also head from several sources that the league is down to somewhere between 3-5 candidates for commish. I've only heard one name that's made the cut, and it's so laughable I can barely fathom the thought. As much as I'm sure everyone would appreciate the joke, it's not fair to this person or the other candidates to release the name prematurely, especially if it's not confirmed. The process doesn't need my "help."

Out in El Paso, I've heard the Rhinos have signed former Washington Nationals (AJHL) players Corey Jandres and Grady Little. Should be interesting to see how that roster develops...

Funny, you should mention Grady Little. He is a good friend of Ryan Blair (formerly with the Bandits) and visited/stayed at our house here in Texarkana several times. Seems like a really good kid. Don't know about his hockey skills since I have never seen him play. Glad to hear he's getting a chance. He is supposed to be through Texarkana on his way to El Paso. (Just a little trivia.)
