Monday News

The Montreal Gazette had an interesting article last week about using stats to get the most bang for your salary capped buck. The article mentions Alan Ryder, who I've also mentioned before. I also knew that Mike Smith was peddling his own stats analysis data, but I don't know what statistical tools he's using in his evaluations. For those of you who have only been reading this blog a few months, stats analysis is a pet project of mine, and several years ago I wrote a number of columns on the topic for SportsIllustrated.com.

Fans booed after Des Moines Bucs' opener suspended. Sioux Falls also had a fog problem, but were able to complete their game. What is it about people up north living in denial about buildings needing air conditioning or dehumidifiers? Not to take a pot-shot at geocentric yankees who think hockey doesn't belong in the South, but at least we've got enough sense to build facilities in which we can play the game year-round.
