Hi-ber-na-tion
No, the blog is not dead... just sleeping. I'm not as enthusiastic about it as I was when it started. If anyone can give me a good reason not to just let it die, feel free to post your comments.
Big weekend coming up for the Dallas Titans. The New York Yankees of the WSHL are arriving in the form of the Phoenix Polar Bears. The Bears play two games Friday-Saturday sandwiched between games Thursday and Sunday in Tulsa. After their horrendous trip west earlier in the season, now is a good opportunity for the Titans to redeem themselves. If they play at the level they are capable of, they will be just fine. I have an assistant joining me in the booth. Former Grapevine and Peoria Mustang goalie David Smullin will be with me on broadcasts from here out. David wil serve as an extra set of eyes, track stats, and add some color. David has some real interest in broadcasting and is looking for some experience. It should be fun, if not a little cramped. :) With attendance that would embarrass even the Roadrunners, it's clear that hockey is in trouble in Centex. Poor crowds make everything else going on that much worse. Assistant coach Jacques Mailhot has been released this week for reasons not yet revealed. Now the entire dance team quit. Just as well. One of the members has posted a rant about it. While I can empathize with some of her issues, the general tone comes off whiny. First off, Trevor Converse has some experience with fraternization issues between "female staff" and players, so the easiest solution was to forbid it between the dance team and players. The policy was spelled out at the very beginning - don't like it they don't try out. Also, it's clear that this person didn't quite yet understand hockey when she mentioned the routines performed "during the half." Now actually, I like the dance team concept, but I like it not for the T&A show (well, maybe a little), but because you've got a dozen people filling intermission time and also serving as a volunteer corps for other intermission activites and game-night duties. One good thing going for the Marshals... I hear they may finally be getting their broadcasts going next week. |
