Thursday News

USHL expands to your computer and handheld by televising live games through broadband connections (for a fee). The Central Hockey League has had CHLTV for a couple years now, and it's nice to see this filter down to the juniors. If I were an NCAA/NHL scout, would I pay for this? You bet! Of course, if other leagues (*coughcoughNAHLcoughcough*) picked up on this, it would kill the contention that NCAA scouts prefer the USHL in part due to its proximity.

Marc I love your blog and what you do for junior hockey, which is to follow it with a passion. However, the NAHL/USHL debate needs to end. Ask any player who has played in both which one is better and has more high end talent and 99% percent will say the USHL. The NAHL is a fine league, with many fine players, and I have followed, scouted, recruited, and been friends with many players in that league, and have nothing personal against it. There just really is no comparison to the 2 if you watch extensive amounts of both leagues. Sure, the Tier I rules are seldom followed, but the ones speaking to the quality of play are certainly there.

In the words of a former defenseman in both leagues: "I went to look up 'gong show' in Webster's the other day and it said 'turn to 'NAHL' on page 678.'"

You have no idea how much respect I have for the USHL and the new directions they are taking. I was just making an observation and a suggestion based on the USHL's latest innovation (for US juniors, at least).
