Misc. Hump Day News...

The group trying to acquire an NAHL team in Topeka has been busy. They've been trying to put together an ownership group, and may be close to having one. My understanding is that any lease on Landon Arena will be more favorable than any preceding lease, since the ticket surcharges to pay for the hockey infrastructure (ice and boards) has been dropped. Such a change would result in a balance swing of $100k-$150k for an NAHL team... That's 20%-25% of a team budget. I'm not sure they've been in contact with the league office, which Tornado-bashers will be pleased to be informed is no longer in Frisco.

There's been a couple of interesting comments regarding the mystery of St. Louis' missing loss and scheduling in general.

Stephen Colbert gives the Saginaw Spirit some publicity you just can't buy (but Colbert is willing to make you a good offer). I hear the Spirit got another mention yesterday, so I'll add it if/when it lands on YouTube.

WHL aghast gambling site takes bets on junior games...

If this isn't a good explanation of why Marquette is a great hockey town, I don't know what is...

While I don't care for gambling books and the like(the only "gambling" I ever do is the very rare lottery ticket), I find it a bit hypocritical of WHL commissioner Ron Robison to so loudly denounce gambling, while many, if not all of the league's teams, accept advertising money from alcohol distributers/brewers, when that money is used to promote a league in which the majority of it's players are not of legal drinking age.
