Jeremy Law Resigns From Tilt

By now everyone is aware of the stories surrounding the Tucson Tilt (read some of the comments to the blog posts to get a sense). Now comes word that Jeremy Law has resigned as head coach due to personal reasons. Obviously there is a lot to this story in both Tucson and Topeka, but my sense is it's going to be coming out in bits and pieces throughout the week. I have a call in to GM Jon MacWilliams, but he has yet to respond. The one thing that appears to be certain is that this is the first scene of the last act...

All hell is gonna break loose in Tucson this week. Where is the cash?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:50 PM, December 03, 2006) :

What the hell, it friggen figures. Topeka is this close to regaining a team and the bottom falls out.

Crap.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:51 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Uh......I think somebody should be asking Mr McWilliams....
I heard nothing has been paid since Sept, including apartment rent. This is inspite of the fact that the boys have given checks to the club for rent.
No hell is gonna break loose. The team is just gone...thats it!
No fan fare...just poof.
Feel sorry for the players for sure.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (9:53 PM, December 03, 2006) :

If Topeka buddies up with McWilliams after his performance in Tucson, they deserve what they get..........
They gotta be smarter than that wouldn't ya think?
Of course Jon may be like T Best..sell ice to and Eskimoe

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Apartments? I thought it was against league policy to put players in apartments? Man are these guys above the law or what.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:14 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Jeremy Hung on without getting paid for over a month and a half. Him and the players were the only solid when it came to the Tilt. Jon Being in Topeka makes no sense. He has an unpaid coach, un paid living arrangements for team, hasnt paid the arena bills, the league is owed. 25 players sit in Tuscon as Jon is in Topeka selling a fairy tail. All the Best to The tilt players and Jeremy Law.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:31 PM, December 03, 2006) :

He ruined 25 kids' career and one great coach. Hope Topeka is smarter than that....wheres Full Tilt now or was it all a bluff....anyone seen proof these poker guys own the team

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:37 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Feel bad for Jeremy. First he gets creamed in FtWorth by a crook, and now Mac Williams et:al gives him a butt plug.
They sold him a bill of good last summer thats for sure. The Tilt Poker got what they wanted, commercialism.
If I were Jeremy I would head back to Canada and never look back.
Seems like enough is enough.
I heard the players ain't sitting. Airline tickets being bought by the fist full, and a traffic jam outta the apt parking lot.
This sure will f-up the Western Division and the up coming showcase in Utah.
Back to a one team league again.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 PM, December 03, 2006) :

The story I heard is that the NAHL wanted a team in Topeka, and the Tilt applied to go teir 1.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:41 PM, December 03, 2006) :

How can you guys totally excuse Jeremy?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:42 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Sitting with the team makes you want to cry- not the way it should have ended for these guys- they deserved better.

Good spirits though I think- they're looking forward while the rest of us are trying to figure out what the hell just happened.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:45 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Good luck getting Jon to respond- he's been MIA for days. Surprise surprise.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:48 PM, December 03, 2006) :

We'd prefer to have the NAHL in Topeka anyways. Maybe this is good news.

Blogger Marc Foster said ... (10:51 PM, December 03, 2006) :

I'll tell you why Jeremy can be excused... he's never had any financial control of the team. None. As the old saying goes, "Don't shoot him, he's just the piano player."

Look, there's a lot more to the story, and it will be coming out in due time. Until then, I hope folks can keep it civil here. I don't want to have to disable the comments feature.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:58 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Are you a Law apologist? Are you telling me at no time until today did he think something was going on? I think there has to be some blame even if it is for drinking the Macwilliams Kool Aid.

Blogger Marc Foster said ... (11:06 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Yeah, you're right. Jeremy is to blame. Blame him for sticking with the players too long. Blame him for not getting paid and still trying to make it work. Blame him for believing in the kids and that Jon's efforts were going to pay off in the long run.

I think you need to read some of the other comments here. Most of these are coming from parents of the team. They, and their kids, know where the fault lies.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:22 PM, December 03, 2006) :

I am not trying to put all the blame on Mr. Law I am just saying he was around Jon and saw the things that were occuring. I think it is comendable of him to stick it out this long but with the title General Manager comes responsability. No? I think he is a good kid in a bad spot and opefully he can move on from this and learn something.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:23 PM, December 03, 2006) :

yeah anonymous if you had all these kids,WINNING, and told the pockets were deep..... wouldn't you have stayed, like law and hoped for a miracle financially.when i was in the military i knew my platoon leader would die beside me and not abandon his troops.... marc has the RIGHT take on this all.

Blogger Marc Foster said ... (11:25 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Ummm, who was the GM again? Jeremy Law was never GM of the Tilt.

http://tucsontilthockey.com/staff.html

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 PM, December 03, 2006) :

jeremy is a great coach/person, he never controlled any money in any way. take it from someone that was on the inside of this team. all jeremy wanted this year was to advance the skill level of his players and team as a whole. when all these fingers start to point, keep them away from lawsy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:31 PM, December 03, 2006) :

I am pretty sure Law was promised the GM title but was sold a false bill of goods. Jon/Owner controlled all of the finances....

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:33 PM, December 03, 2006) :

go tilt, best junior team in the country!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:34 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Maybe Sidney Crosby will come to save Jon

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:44 PM, December 03, 2006) :

where Do I go to get my season ticket refunds. How long will the line be at Jon's house. Should his home # get published?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:47 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Here's what I want to know. Who's name is on the team documentation with the WSHL? That person is the one who is ultimately responsible for this mess. Is it Jon?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:48 PM, December 03, 2006) :

Jeremy is as much a victim as the players. Shame on Jon MacWilliams for misleading everyone involved!

everyone involved needs to relax and keep thier mouths shut until all the facts have come out. give jon a chance to explain himself before all you arm chair quarterbacks started verbally bashing him.

I heard the whole roster is being transferred to Idaho, so the Rattlers are back on!! WooHoo!

OK, who wrote THIS crap?
"everyone involved needs to relax and keep thier mouths shut until all the facts have come out. give jon a chance to explain himself before all you arm chair quarterbacks started verbally bashing him."
Mrs. McWilliams, go back to sleep. Hope you're enjoying your new Caribbean condo, paid for with players tuitions.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:59 PM, December 03, 2006) :

I'm sorry but Jon is a little bit late with the explanation. He should have been here in Tucson the last few days making his explanations and doing damage control.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:03 AM, December 04, 2006) :

what are everyones thoughts as to where the money went?????

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:04 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Can someone seriously answer an honest question?

If the team collected over $80,000 in player tuitions, and they've only had one real road trip (to Valencia), where is all that money? Not in Jeremy's paycheck (he doesn't GET one!). Not in league dues (unpaid!). Someone is guilty of felonious conduct here, and I'm damn sure it isn't the coach!!

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:05 AM, December 04, 2006) :

is someone honestly saying jon stole the money, or do we have an angry mommy and daddy.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:08 AM, December 04, 2006) :

I don't believe anyone is accusing Jon specifically. SOMEONE has that money. I think it's fair to ask, "Who?"

Wait, maybe they ARE blaming Jon. Who owns the account those tuition funds were deposited into? Simple question.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:21 AM, December 04, 2006) :

casual observer here...

why is no one asking about these poker player guys? they put THEIR name on the team, only to let it fail? be interesting to hear what those professional bluffers have to say

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:25 AM, December 04, 2006) :

hey there, casual observer: I bet those poker players are only vaguely aware they even have their name associated with a hockey team. the whole thing is a mess, but here's a plain truth: $80,000 is missing. Who has it? Whoever it is whose name in on the checking account for Tilt Hockey. Whoever it is should either present the funds or go to jail.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:30 AM, December 04, 2006) :

YEAH IF THINGS HAD GONE DOWN right last year t best could have had a year in jail under his belt when he welcomed his fellow canuck JON TO HIS CELL IF I WERE JON I'D RUN FOR MY HOME LAND PROBABLY WHERE HE HAS THE MONEY HIDDEN ANYWAYS.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:33 AM, December 04, 2006) :

NO ONE HAS THE MONEY TO GIVE BACK, IT HAS BEEN SPENT FOR SOME TIME NOW. AND YES THESE POKER PLAYERS DONT REALLY KNOW OR CARE ABOUT THIS. IT WAS LIKE THIS FROM THE START OF OUR SEASON. THIS WHOLE SITUATION WAS SET TO FAIL BEFORE WE EVEN GOT STARTED. I JUST FEEL FOR THE PLAYERS NOW. JON AND JEREMY WILL GO BACK TO CANADA AND GET OTHER JOBS, WHERE WILL THE BOYS GO(86'S) THIS IS A HARD NIGHT FOR THE ONES INVOLVED WITH THIS TEAM.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:37 AM, December 04, 2006) :

You know, just because Jeremy left doesn't mean the team can't continue. An 11th hour replacement coach and fresh funds could be in the wings. For the players sake, I hope so.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:40 AM, December 04, 2006) :

NO YOUR WRONG, 90% OF THE PLAYERS CAME TO PLAY FOR LAWSY. THEY WONT PLAY FOR ANYONE ELSE. TRUST ME ON THIS, I WOULD KNOW. THERE IS NO 11TH HOUR, IN FACT THERE WILL NOT EVEN BE A RINK IN TUCSON SOON ENOUGH.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:42 AM, December 04, 2006) :

HOCKEY IN TUCSON IS OVER. END OF STORY

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:43 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:44 AM, December 04, 2006) :

I just looked up how much money these poker guys made. MILLIONS. Hey, Topeka, you guys just got off EASY.

No one has answered a question someone asked earlier, and that's WHOSE NAME IS ON THE ACCOUNT?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:44 AM, December 04, 2006) :

what the hell does that mean?????

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????// explain

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:47 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Actually I am a parent, reading all this stuff. My son is not really all that upset. An 86 hes a good player and simply is heading to the EJ. Most of the other 86's save for one or two and not bent at all. They are taking it in stride. A few years of Jr Hockey in the US hardens most of these boys, and nothing is a surprise.
Old story, just a different verse. It will happen again and again in USA Jr hockey.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:48 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Best of luck to Jeremy and the players. May you all land on your feet.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:50 AM, December 04, 2006) :

any parents online right now???

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:56 AM, December 04, 2006) :

If McWilliams name is the only one on the account that tuitions were deposited into, then he is responsible. I think the WSHL should rescind his ownership, operate the team from the league office, and search for new ownership.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (1:09 AM, December 04, 2006) :

How will we ever hear the facts from Jon???? He left the boys hanging and has not returned any phone calls to parents or the team. Most of the team will probably be gone by the time he shows back up - if he ever does.

May Jon pay big for his mistakes

I've been there boys. It sucks.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:11 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Sorry - but who cares about Topeka! There are 25 young men and a great young coach who have had a great season yanked out from underneath them.

Blogger David Streeter said ... (10:21 AM, December 04, 2006) :

First off, I care about Topeka.

Second, yes I do feel exteremly bad for the coach and players of the #2 ranked team in all of Junior B.

I hope you don't think we care less about the players. We do care. We were ready to give them a great barn to play in. now they have to find new teams and be uprooted mid-season. That sucks.

Good luck to Coahc Law and the players.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:49 AM, December 04, 2006) :

Players are on Interstates out of Tucson as I write....a hand full of players committed to Jeremy at the end of last season and stayed true to their word. They have been suckered punched. This is not Jeremy's fault but that of Jon who got so caught up in the whirl wind he forgot to pay the bills. Poker players only put in the 5K each to get franchise and the one poker player who knows about the plight of the team said he didn't sigh a contract, not giving more money, and he was on his way to the Bahamas..... players have been in Tucson since last Thursday with no coach or GM/President to answer questions/rumors, they have been on a roller coaster all weekend. McWilliams holds the check book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But where is he?????????? What about the 86's who are trying to get into colleges to play?????? At this point I think McWilliams is worse than Best (if that is possible)Best at least lied straight to your face as oppose to McWilliams who hides like the snake he is. How can you look at yourself after what you have done to Lawsy and the team?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:58 AM, December 04, 2006) :

So are the tilt done for the season? I hope not then there is no hope to bring down the evil empire (phoenix)

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (7:55 AM, December 05, 2006) :

Can someone remind again me what coach Law did wrong? The way I see it, Coach Law hung in Tuscon much longer than he should have. Why did he stay? Because he recruited one of the best teams in the nation and he thinks the most of all his players. Who was accountable to make sure the players were ready each day to play? Coach Law - and I must say, he did exactly that! Now, who was responsible for the financial aspect of the team? ie, making sure bills were paid and the team had the appropriate funding to carry out the year? Answer: Jon McBurglar! Thank god he's not Sydney Crosby's agent.....give it up Jon, you're nothing but a criminal.....where's the money we gave you? Did Law write the cheques or did you?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (8:44 AM, December 05, 2006) :

Agree, Coach Law did all he could do and more. Jon is at fault and will be punished for his actions. The KVOA news in Tuscon has been contacted today and a story will be on the this evening. If you live in Tuscon...tune in. I doubt Jon will make any comments but several of the parents have been contacted and their comments will be told. You can guarentee Jon will never touch hockey again. Does anyone know Jon's wifes name?

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:27 AM, December 05, 2006) :

If Law is such a great coach why did he abandon those players when they needed him the most. He tucked tail and ran as fast as he could. He could have gone back and tried to help but instead he takes off. I am not saying Jon didn't mess things up, but Law should have gone back to Tucson and stood by those players he supposedly cared about so much.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:34 AM, December 05, 2006) :

From my understanding he and his pregnant fiancee were going to be evicted from their apartment with no pay check.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (10:40 AM, December 05, 2006) :

If the team is folding after tonight as Marc predicts, there's little help Jeremy could provide other than help find new teams, and the minute he starts moving players the league will freeze the roster.

elaine but they call her yellow

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:10 AM, December 05, 2006) :

There may not have been much Law could have done but he could have been there for those players. They needed him to be strong and show them someone still cared enough about them to be there, and he left them to deal with this by themselves. That doen't sound much like a coach that cares to me.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (11:27 AM, December 05, 2006) :

He is in Tucson and is staying there until he has helped all of his players find new teams. I heard he only left Tucson for two days to make money so he could buy grocieries...

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:34 PM, December 05, 2006) :

if anyone has ever been around jeremy law 10 minutes you would know he is a very respectable ,honest, caring individual, which is why jon put such a snow job on him, as well as all the players and parents. law believed all he was told, his job was on the ice to make a great team ,NOT OVER SEE THE FINANCES, and only wanted to take a great team to NATIONALS which by the way they deserved to go. i assume he is probably broken hearted , not to mention worried for his teams well being, bet not one player has uttered any negativity about THEIR COACH LAW .as for you nay sayers obviously you know nothing about his character. I KNOW PERSONALLY HE HAS SPENT DAYS TALKING WITH HIS PARENTS AND PLAYERS TIME TO PUT A LID ON IT

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:41 PM, December 05, 2006) :

It's a shame Coach Law will more than likely face the same sactions Macwilliams will face. They both will more than likely be suspended by USA Hockey if the allegations ring true.

Anonymous Anonymous said ... (12:47 PM, December 05, 2006) :

Hold on a minute here. Aren't all kids playing in Junior Hockey supposed to stay with host parents? I know mine does. How is it these kids are living by themselves in four apartments. Has USA Hockey been notified about this? Maybe they should be. If Macwilliams and Law both knew about this, then shame on them.

Lets get down to what we really want to know.....what did Jon spend all the money on? Jon!!...respond!!!...where did the money go!!!??? Man up and speak the truth.....no more lies about who you coached in the past...how good of a hockey player you were.....how much money you have.....how you know so many poker pros!!...WE DON'T CARE...WE KNOW YOU LIE!!!! Hold on a minute here. Aren't all kids playing in Junior Hockey supposed to stay with host parents? I know mine does. How is it these kids are living by themselves in four apartments. Has USA Hockey been notified about this?

Show me where it is in USA Hockey regs... It's not that I've ever been able to determine.

I'm starting to wish Blogger hadn't fixed the comments bug. Folks, if the rhetoric isn't toned down I'm going to suspend the comments.

Our team feels bad for the Tuscon players. They were a very good team. We lost to them in a shootout. Phenix beat us all 3 times easily. We were looking forward to seeing them play each other in crossover next week in Utah. In the end, Phenix would have won the league anyway. They are more disciplinned (half as many penalty mins as Tuscon). We'd love to have their top line come to Sacramento (please don't go to Phenix, they got 3 great lines).

To those interested,

I just had a very interesting phone call with Mr. Ron White. For those of you that don't know, Ron is the commissionaire of the league. Ron confirmed that over $150,000 was in the Tilt's account early in the year but was recklessly spent. With that confirmed, I had to ask Mr.White what the other teams budgets are to successfully operate throughout the year? He confirmed and I quote, “An average annual budget for a Junior B team in the WSHL is $150,000”. With over $150,000 spent, you have to question why the Tilt is out of money only 4 months into the season.

Lets not kid ourselves. For the people that know Jon, we all know the truth on where he spent the money. All I can say right now is that my nose is sniffling and my groin is burning wondering where that money has gone!! Mr.Mcwilliams, are you going out tonight? Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night....it appears to be a blizzard at Jon’s house in Tucson. (BOYS – PLUG YOUR EARS) To top it off, he has a 10 cute little asian Elves riding his sleigh.

All I can say is that despite the situation, I'm very happy my son is no longer associated in any way to this "boy" named Jon McWilliams.

I here Ron White is suspending Jeremy from USA Hockey.... For how Long.... Don't Know. Why? Not sure.
My two cents is Ron White Should resign Himself. He's a Joke.
Talks out of both sides of his mouth and does nothing that don't glorify him and the WSHL. Owes the Texans team OVER $10,000.00 that they earned.
They should put the WSHL out of business too. The leagues a mess, Ron's a big part of the problem.
