Rapid City Update and 2008 All Star Game

Rapid City is back on the front-burner this morning as construction has resumed on their arena. The real question is who will play there. A civic-minded committee will hear presentations from the CHL on April 11 and from the USHL on April 24.

I'm not sure of the strategy to be used by the USHL to beat-out the CHL in claiming the market. Obviously, both leagues will need to need to incorporate some degree of local ownership. I think it's fairly predictable that the USHL will focus on the development angle, whereas the CHL will concentrate on entertainment. Thing is, "entertainment" in this case isn't quantifiable, and it could be argued the "value" of both leagues is equal. The USHL should be able to do a better job of playing the "community" card by discussing billet housing.

Also, expected today is some form of announcement from the Green Bay Gamblers that they will be hosting the 2008 All Star Game. It may come this evening while the Gamblers play at home against Cedar Rapids. UPDATE: Here is the release...
