NAHL to San Angelo?

Here's a newflash out of San Angelo this morning... the NAHL may be taking a second look at the market. The long-running issue with any team in San Angelo has been the lease terms offered to prospective teams. The last major go-around was two years ago when Andy Murray flirted with San Angelo for his (at the time) Santa Fe Roadrunners. It fell through when lease terms proved to be too high for the team. At the time (and ever since), I questioned the allocation of overhead by the arena manager, who used the cost of maintaining the ice plant as primary justification for his exorbitant lease terms. Sure enough, it seems McEnrue was the reason hockey couldn't come back to San Angelo, feeding the city council incorrect numbers on electric costs for hockey teams ever since the CHL's Saints left. He recently resigned during the course of a two-year investigation and may face criminal charges. Fortunately for local hockey fans, with new blood brings new opportunities.

good idea, make more junior teams, and have more bad players play! that league is junk, and if it only had 12 teams it would be a lot better. good luck, nice vision for your league. spread out geographically, and talent wise.

Wow, such hatred! Sounds like the poster could be a CHL fan! I do agree that there has been phenomenal growth in Juniors recently, and the talent level, in a few markets, has failed to provide enough quality players. That said, the future of hockey depends on growth, and the talent level will rise to meet demand.

San Angelo and Lubbock have been on the NAHL radar before. Now is the time to take a good hard look. Both barns are sitting empty with the exception of the Tech club team. Plenty of local support in both cities. Would make for easier travel(Wichita Falls/Frisco) except for the Alaska trips

My son has played on San Angelo And Odessa travel teams for years. The prospect of him being able to play on a Jr. team in Texas Or maybe even his hometown would be great.
